Our Deepest Sympathies
Our sympathies must
By rights lie
rather
With those erstwhile immigrants
Wsiting their turn
patiently
To come to this country
As, ultimately, Americans;
not
As incipient robbers.
Not, that is to say,
With those who came here
Illegally,
Like thieves in the night.
We must expedite
The entrance of good
Future citizens.
Let us hop to it
before
The marauders outnumber us
and take over
the country
That our forefathers bled
And died for
To bequeath us -
We,
The Living -
With a good start in life
and the rest
Would be up to us
not
To the government
To provide for
Its serfs.
Sheep.
Cattle.
Whatever
We would be
To It
Under Its terms.
Awake
Arise
And go forth
As a free people
All ye who enter here
Legally.
The rest of you:
Out.
And enter -
If you still will -
Peacefully.
That is your lesson
And ours.
