On Tuesday last I posted here a blog about my historical heroes, which included mention of General George S. Patton.1 Yesterday - Sunday2 - there was deposited on my doorstep a packet, from Amazon, with a book inside. It was titled 'Killing Patton' (by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard). I didn't order it. No note inside. I don't have a clue who had it sent to me. But it is very welcome, indeed. (America needs such men - and women - in this time of its great need; etc. etc.)3 And in taking a first glance through its beginning, I learned something new about the man, regarding his death.
I had known about it - from a couple of other books that I have read about him/his life, and from the brief reports on it in the papers at the time - but there was new information in this take on the man, and certain curious circumstances surrounding the 'accident' that took him from the post-war scene. Some quick background on that situation:
Patton was a very outspoken man, who 'called 'em as he saw 'em'; a trait that had gotten him into a lot of trouble, especially with the American newspaper media, and with Ike - his boss - who was even forced to reprimand him officially for said forthrightness (but couldn't have his head, as much of the media was pushing for,4 because he needed Patton and his (beloved) Third Army for the push into Europe). In the days after V-E Day, when he was overseeing some post-war local government in Germany, Patton made the mistake of allowing himself to be quoted by the U.S. press as a) "praising his former German enemies for their skills as soldiers," b) "while also criticizing the Soviet Union as being a [potential] foe rather than an ally of the United States".
Oh-oh. Mustn't say such things, in the growing 'political correctness' of that day…
"Some [came] to see Patton as a roadblock to world peace…"
How far might 'they' go, in getting him out of the way for said future world?…
His death (by a broken neck, and twelve days in traction in hospital, resulting ultimately in a pulmonary embolism)5 was occasioned by an auto crash when his touring car was smashed into by a deuce-and-a-half Army truck, which "suddenly and inexplicably veered from the opposite lane and into" Patton's very vulnerable car. Accident? Could be. And was cited as such at the time. But:
"Both the man driving the truck and his two passengers quickly vanished after the incident. No criminal charges were ever filed. No accountability was ever recorded."
Well; accidents...even resulting in the death of generals. Outspoken generals, even…...
"Also, both the official accident report and several key witnesses soon went missing."
Now that's, at the least, strange…
"And most ominous of all, a former American intelligence operative confessed in October 1979 that he had planned and participated in the assassination of Gen. George S. Patton Jr.
"It was a shocking assertion that was largely ignored…"
A former spook wanting some limelight time before disappearing into the sunset, unremarked on, for his interesting time in the shadows???
Again: Could be.
But I wouldn't put it past those son-of-a-bitching communists that infested FDR's administration.6 Just like the totalitarians in Obama's administration; scheming from behind the scenes (as much as they can avoid the sunlight, from such good FOIA-request sleuthers as Judicial Watch) to take down this country, and 'Change' it from a constitutional republic - i.e., representative government under the rule of law - to a statist regime, under the rule of men. And gays. And lesbians. And a whole host of welfare addicts. And illegal aliens, diluting the vote of true Americans. And…
Another subject. But you get the picture.
I am reminded of what Cicero said long ago, about enemies from within.
I am also intrigued by a thought about Patton, that has come to me in this latest reminder of him, and his approach to his life, as a 'born warrior'. I think he was, unconsciously, a proponent of a spiritual principle, of Manifestation,7 that goes something like this:
You must BE that which you would manifest; and thereby draw to you, in resonance, all that you need in order to fulfill your highest potential, and purposes.
It is related to another spiritual principle, namely, the concept of tat tvam asi.
That art thou.
Yes; even warriors. Cosmic laws are cosmic laws.
-
R.I.P., bold warrior. You did your job. Well. Well done.
Meaning: that which you were handed, by history, to do.
With a foul - to say as well: uncensored - mouth, and all. Whatever it took for you to be you.

1 I forgot the 'Jr.' part of his name; but have gone back to fill it in. Details matter; as I have written on here before.
And actually, as to that matter, I have belatedly realized that I should have included something in my 'heroes' scroll. Something like
Perhaps
a bit
peculiar

2 Sunday delivery?? Must be extra duty for the Christmas package-delivery push.
3 And curiously enough, today I received in the post a copy - the updated version thereof - of Phyllis Schlafly's 'A Choice - Not An Echo'. That one I did know about, from having made a donation to her 'worthy cause' of The Eagle Forum.
4 It had to do with Patton's chewing-out of a soldier who was in hospital because he 'couldn't take it,' and was therefore, in Patton's steely eyes, a coward and a yellow-belly and what all, put up against all those brave men there and those still on the line who were risking their lives for his effing ass, etc. etc. You get the picture. And so did the folks back home, via their newspaper reports on the incident.
5 And interestingly on a December 21st. Solstice Day. The shortest day of the year. As if in mourning, for this fallen hero, Son of the United States of America. Or to say, more clearly: of the American Republic.
Long may her banner yet wave.
Until it's time to change it.
Spiritually.
6 See, for example, Whittaker Chambers's 'Witness'.
7 The 'New" Laws thereof. As opposed to the Old Laws. I'm not talking about the finding-a-parkng-space kind of Manifestation. See David Spangler's very interesting book, or at least take, on the subject. (It's out of print. Possibly available in used-books stores.)
