You Have To Laugh

Jake Johnson of the self-styled 'progressive' site Common Dreams has complained, citing various left-wing sources, that FB has purged some of 'their' sites in its recent wholesale move "to silence independent political perspectives that run counter to the corporate media's dominant narratives".

Ah - got it.  Censorship is fine, and even to be applauded, when it comes to airbrushing out the other guy's pov; but not when it comes to your own.

Let's get real about this ugly matter.  The social media sites are not a strictly private-enterprise matter.  They use the public airwaves to operate on.  Therefore, they are - should be - legitimately subject to some governmental regulation.  That doesn't mean that they have to engage in some sort of 'equal time' business.  That just means that they can't be arbitrary in what they censor.

What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

The only things that should be censored are the likes of hardcore porn and the advocating of violence; that sort of thing.

And speaking of the latter: How about the recent outbursts by the likes of Rep. Maxine Waters??  That comes very close to the mark, of advocating violence.  Look what happened when that leftist crazy took a liking to gunning down those Republican Congressmen on that softball field, and almost - almost - accomplished his intent.  And the neighbor of Sen. Rand Paul, who broke his ribs and did other physical damage to him.  All - and more - occasioned by partisan political rhetoric, that has gone too far, in today's corrosive climate regarding that subject.

Come on, people.  We can do better than this.  I understand that some among us - many among us; and particularly among our young, who have been radicalized by the indoctrination of their college and university professors; the latter having hoped for a day like this one to come - want the U.S. to morph into the likes of Communist China.  (As part of their dream of a global totalitarian New World Order.)  But it isn't there.  Yet.  And in the meantime, this country has a history of, and reputation for,  protecting free speech - indeed, is "a shining city on a hill" in that regard.

Don't fall for the siren singing of the totalitarians amongst us.

And that's my two-cents worth of free-speech contribution for today.
